| try a public speaking class or camp.
camp can be expensive, though. but it's offered in the summer, usually at colleges.

| umm... go warriors...? lol
haha. raindeers that kill. ...nvm. lol.
why did i spell that wrong? REINDEER.
yay.
a real "rain-deer" would be kinda freaky. appearing in the middle of a storm. -> need to write that down how come they're not called snow deer instead? or... submissive deer.... >.< cuz they don't really "reign." maybe because people use reins when controlling them? oi. overexamining.
......
ok. depending on what kind of event or debate you wish to practice, there is a camp for it. i haven't heard of any in sacramento, but in cali there are some located near the bay area and So Cal.
other than that, im clueless.
help, anyone?
more specifically, Lan, since you have been to camp.

| Would you want to work one-on-one with me? Do you want to improve on the technicalities of debate? Or just focus on persuading a lay judge? What specific problems are you facing?
Debate camps are generally the best option. I encourage you to invest your money in a reputable debate camp. Do not waste your money on debate camps that lack competent instructors. I always suggest checking your instructors’ records/debate history online.
Also, scholarships are often offered in the more established debate camps that tend to be more expensive. Just be proactive in searching and applying.
The availability of debate camps is dependent on the form of debate. Some are extremely competitive and require an application to be considered. Since you are currently interested in Parliamentary, there are limited debate camps available. I would recommend Claremont McKenna for a Parli. camp because the instructors there are well established college debaters. http://www.parliamentarydebate.com/High_School_Debate.html Contact John Meany if interested in camp/scholarships: john.meany@cmc.edu
Another option is SNFI (Stanford), however; I would not recommend attending this camp. According to the students who have been there, the instructors were generally apathetic and the living conditions were bad.
Feel free to attend other debate camps (ex. LD or Public Forum) since you are still experimenting. At the end of the day, the only real rules are the time limit and speaking order. Using the terms “kritiks” and “solvency” are not mutually exclusive to any debate form. Although the definition and usage sometimes varies, most terms will have a universal definition/usage.
Also, you guys can always call me if the contacting via email is not convenient or sufficient. I’m generally available after 8:00 p.m. everyday. Any call before 2:00 a.m. would be fine.

| when applying to debate camp, does a person have to apply according to the level they are in at regular tournaments? (ex: novice, varsity)
or, instead, does a person apply for the level that the person feels best suited for? (ex: novice wants a challenge, applies as varsity. varsity doesn't have much experience, applies for novice.)
also, what qualifies a person as JV level in Speech and Debate camp?
*curiosity kills the cat. and me.*
i've heard that stanford offers a combination of LD/IEs for two weeks for 2050. is it better to have combos, or different camps, as one may save more money than the other?
